In 2014, an analytic instrument maker contacted us regarding a new handheld device they were designing. The environment that the device operated had wide temperature variations and they were having trouble with a custom ASIC functioning at low temperatures. Due to the design layout the heater was split into two zones with locations for mounting a high accuracy temperature sensor and a connector that would plug into the device’s wire harness.
The use of a standard single zone heater was not possible because of the need to incorporate the sensor and connector. We worked with the customer and designed an unusually shaped, two zone heater that was able to fit into their existing enclosure avoiding an expensive redesign.
