In 2010, TFT was contacted by a manufacturer of very sensitive magnetometer test instruments. They needed a sample heater that was not only made from material low in magnetic contaminants, but also needed a design that produced as small a magnetic field as possible when energized. Working with the customer, we tested a series of thick film conductor, resistor and dielectric material systems in order to find one that would meet the customer’s needs. Again, working with the customer we designed a multi-layer heater with stacked elements and counter flowing current such that nearly all the magnetic field created by the heater was cancelled out.
Since build of the first model, TFT has worked with this customer on nine different styles of heating elements for use on their highly sensitive magnetometer equipment.
